DENVER — A student from East High School has been formally charged in connection with an attempted aggravated robbery that put the school on lockdown last week, the Denver District Attorney’s Office said Tuesday.
Elhadji Samba Dioum has been charged with attempted aggravated robbery, menacing and theft from a person.
The charges allege that Dioum tried to rob another high school student and threatened to shoot him with what was later identified as a BB gun. The charges also allege that he had stolen the gun from another student before the attempted robbery.
The robbery and reports of a gun on school grounds put East High School on lockdown on Thursday for almost two hours. Police said there were no reports of shots fired or injuries.
Dioum remains in custody with bond set at $100,000. He is scheduled to appear in Denver County Court on Thursday morning to be formally advised of the charges.
Additional charges are expected to be filed. Dioum is being held at the Gilliam Detention Center.
