DENVER — A man who obtained more than 13,000 images of child pornography and then distributed some to an undercover FBI agent will spend more than eight years in federal prison.

U.S. District Court Judge issued the sentence Thursday for Walden Allen Schmidt, 46. Schmidt pleaded guilty in December 2012 to possession of child pornography. He was free on bond until his sentencing Thursday when he was immediately taken into custody.

“People from all walks of life have been caught possessing child pornography,” said U.S. Attorney John Walsh.  “Regardless of their station in life, if they exploit children they will be held accountable.”

“The nation’s children are our most vulnerable victims,” said FBI Denver Acting Special Agent in Charge Steven Olson.  “The FBI remains committed to working with our state and local law enforcement partners and the United States Attorney’s Office to aggressively investigate all cases involving the sexual exploitation of children.”

Schmidt worked as a DJ at a local strip club according to the Department of Justice press release.
