DENVER — Denver Public Schools’ Security staff has a motto when it comes to the safety of students:  “Don’t scare ‘em, save ‘em.”

Thursday, the district unveiled new security measures at 140 different locations, which included “duress” buttons and card readers.

The $5.9 million used for the upgrades came from a 2012 voter-approved bond.
