DENVER — Denver police officers and SWAT teams — with guns drawn — surrounded PT’s Showclub in southwest Denver for more than three hours Tuesday morning after receiving a call that four armed gunmen were inside. There was a huge police presence at the club at 1601 W. Evans Ave. The Denver Police Department called it a “possible barricade situation.”
The manager of the club said the cleaning crew was inside when four armed men burst in about 6:15 a.m. The manager said the crew was able to get out through a back door. A SWAT team went inside and searched the building but found no one, with police standing down about 9:30 a.m. “We don’t know the motive,” Denver police spokeswoman Raquel Lopez said. Evans Avenue was shut down between Osage and Raritan streets, and Schmitt Elementary School (1820 S. Vallejo St.) was placed on lockout as the situation unfolded. Lopez said there were no injuries. “It appears to be an isolated case,” Lopez said.
