DENVER — Demolition work that has caused overnight closures at I-25 and Sixth Avenue this week will be extended until at least Tuesday.

There will be no demolition or closures this weekend, but the work and closure will be implemented Sunday through Tuesday. It’s possible there will be work and closures Wednesday as well.

Workers are taking down the east portion of the Sixth Avenue bridge deck that crosses I-25.

Beginning at 8 p.m. on the nights affected, there will be double lane closures on both directions of I-25. Beginning at 10 p.m., southbound I-25 traffic will be detoured off the highway at Sixth Avenue, west to Federal Boulevard, south to Fifth Avenue, then east on Sixth and back to I-25. Northbound traffic will move into the southbound lanes.

To keep Federal Boulevard traffic moving, the eastbound Sixth Avenue off-ramp to Federal will be closed.

Motorists should expect heavy traffic and delays during the closures and detours.
