Fire destroys building at Castle Rock apartment complex

CASTLE ROCK, Colo. — One person was injured after a fire at an apartment complex in Castle Rock on Monday night, South Metro Fire Rescue said.

The fire in the 2200 block of Castlegate Drive started about 6 p.m. Photos showed smoke and flames coming from the top of the building.

Crews from Castle Rock, South Metro, Larkspur and Franktown were able to quickly get the fire under control.

One person was taken to a hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. A firefighter was also taken to a hospital but has since been released.

The American Red Cross is helping assist about a dozen residents who were displaced. About six to eight units suffered damage, fire officials said.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
