GOLDEN, Colo. — MillerCoors, one of Colorado’s biggest employers, announced on Monday that it will be laying off 200 workers and eliminating an additional 160 jobs that are currently open.

According to the Denver Business Journal, included in those cuts are 30 jobs in Golden, where the company’s joint venture partner Molson Coors Brewing Co. is based.

One of the first to report the news, the Business Journal indicated the layoffs were due to a decrease in sales for some of the company’s best-known products, including Coors Light and Miller Lite.

The cuts represent about two percent of Chicago-based MillerCoors’ total workforce and 6 percent of its salaried workforce, a company spokesperson told the Business Journal. Locally, MillerCoors operates Coors brewery in Golden and Blue Moon Brewing Co. at Coors Field.
