DENVER — The roofing business in Colorado can be competitive. An estimated 2,000 companies swarm into the state on average to knock on doors of customers impacted by hailstorms.
On Saturday, James Webb announced a “Get a Roof, Get a Gun” promotion, offering to give an AR-15 rifle to any customer who purchases a new roof.
“We are the only roofing company in the country that is offering this. We figured we take a stand on what we believe,” Webb said. “We help protect the outside now we empower people to protect the inside.”
The promotion runs until Oct. 1. Webb is partnering with a local gun club to run the appropriate background checks.
A promotion like this is hardly new. Texas Sen. Ted Cruz offered a gun giveaway earlier this year if anyone signed up on his website.
But gun control advocates remain furious, including State Rep. Rhonda Fields.
“It is very troublesome to me that someone would want to increase business by offering an incentive to a get a new roof by getting a gun,” Fields said.
Webb requests that people who disagree with his company’s thoughts on guns to purchase a roof elsewhere.
“That’s fine. There are a lot of other roofing companies out there,” Webb said.
If customers don’t want an AR-15, or they already have one, Webb will offer a tactical rifle instead or a gift card to Cabellas.
