DENVER — A suspect in an armed robbery in Colorado Springs was held at gunpoint by a civilian and tased by a police officer before finally being arrested Wednesday, Colorado Springs police reported.

About 4:36 p.m., a man entered a business in the 2800 block of East Platte Avenue and demanded money, police said. The man claimed to have a gun in his pocket, witnesses said.

The suspect fled with an unknown sum of money, but a man working at another business in the area followed him. A confrontation ensued, and the man drew his own gun, holding the suspect at gunpoint until police arrived several minutes later. The suspect advanced on police, allegedly yelling for the officer to shoot him, at which point he was tased.

The man taken into custody was identified as Michael Bass, 50. Bass was transported to a local hospital after informing officers he had consumed several harmful substances prior to the robbery. Bass will be booked for the felony aggravated robbery after he is released from the hospital, police said.
