COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – A man who attempted to rob a King Soopers on Sunday was tackled to the ground by alert customers.

About 1:16 p.m., officers responded to a reported theft in progress at the King Soopers at 3250 Centennial Blvd.

Police arrived to find the suspect, Joseph Grimmig, being restrained on the ground by several shoppers.

Police say that Grimmig, 27, shoved a clerk aside after they opened a register, grabbing cash and attempting to flee the store.

Unfortunately for Grimmig, the clerk and several customers stopped him in his tracks, and wrestled him to the floor when he resisted.

The money was recovered and Grimmig was booked on a robbery charge.
