COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. — Colorado Springs mayoral candidate Justine Herring, who was charged earlier this month amid accusations she pointed a rifle at a man in a park, was arrested again Monday on charges of assault and violating a protection order.

Colorado Springs Police arrested Herring, 48, on Monday morning after an altercation with her common-law husband at the couple’s home in the 600 block of Glen Eyrie Circle, KRDO reported.

Police say Herring assaulted her common-law husband with an object that could be considered a weapon. She also was not allowed in the house because of a protection order.

Herring was booked into the El Paso County Jail and charged with second-degree assault and violation of a mandatory protection order.

Herring was arrested Jan. 5 , accused of pointing an AR-15 rifle at a man and threatening him at Memorial Park two days earlier.

After her first arrest, Herring told KRDO that she planned to stay in the race for mayor.
