AURORA, Colo. — The body of a Colorado soldier killed in Afghanistan was returned to Buckley Air Force Base Saturday in preparation for his funeral Tuesday.
Army Staff Sergeant Jordan Bear was killed March 1 allegedly by Afghans upset about the accidental burning of Korans by U.S. troops.
The suspects worked at the same base where Jordan was deployed. He was one of at least six Americans killed in the incident.
Bear’s family and members of the military were present at Buckley AFB when his flag-covered casket was removed from plane.
“We are here to help him make his journey home,” said Jordan’s uncle, Lee Bear. It’s an emotional time for everyone.
Lee says Jordan was married last summer and has a newborn baby.
“His little one is not going to know his dad,” Lee said. “That’s the tough part.”
Lee says Jordan was a good man, adding he will be greatly missed.
“He dealt with a lot of chaos and violence and death there (Afghanistan), but the big thing he craves in his life was order.”
Staff Sergeant Bear’s funeral will be Tuesday at the All Saints Roman Catholic Church in Denver.
Governor Hickenlooper has order flags lowered to half staff that day.
