DENVER -- An 11-year-old boy was hit and killed by an SUV at the intersection of East Evans Avenue and South Quebec Street in southeast Denver on Monday night, the Colorado State Patrol said.

Two boys were crossing Evans from north to south about 7:50 p.m. when one of them stopped. The boy who continued walking was then hit in the center lane by a 2004 Chevrolet Tahoe that was traveling eastbound.

The Colorado State Patrol said the boy, who was identified Tuesday as Damian Solis of Denver, was wearing dark clothing and was hit in an unlit area outside of the crosswalk.

A neighbor said the boy who was not hit came to her door to tell her about the accident. The neighbor said CPR was attempted on the boy, but it was unsuccessful.

The driver, 45-year-old Maria Yurivilca of Aurora, remained at the scene. Drugs, alcohol and excessive speed are not suspected, the Colorado State Patrol said.

Yurivilca was not injured and she is not facing any charges.
