Everywhere you drive in the Metro area, you can’t help but notice Amber Alert signs for missing 10-year-old Jessica Ridgeway.

An Amber Alert, which is a national emergency notification, was issued late Friday for the missing 10-year-old, who was last seen walking to school.

The Colorado Bureau of Investigation says three Amber Alerts have been issued for the state in 2012.

So, what are the qualifications the CBI needs before it posts an Amber Alert?

According to Susan Medina, a spokeswoman for the CBI:

1 – The child must be younger than 18.

2 – The alert must be initiated by law enforcement.

3 – There must be an immediate threat or danger to the child.

4 – The “alert” is needed to aid in the investigation.
