CASTLE ROCK, Colo. — When you think of Girl Scouts, you likely think about buying their cookies. But one Castle Rock pastor says when he thinks of the Girl Scouts Organization, he thinks about the word “wicked.”
As first reported by our sister station KFOR this week, Kevin Swanson, a preacher at the Reformation Church OPC in Castle Rock, begged listeners of his online podcast “Generations Radio” to stay away from the cookies.
“Please, I beg of you, do not buy Girl Scout cookies,” Swanson told radio listeners.
Say no to children with cookies? That seems to be the message Swanson was conveying, even going so far as to bring his feelings about homosexuality into his call for action.
“I mean, I don’t want to support lesbianism. I don’t want to support Planned Parenthood and I don’t want to support abortion,” said Swanson. “And if that be the case, I’m not buying Girl Scout cookies. I don’t want to promote a wicked organization.”

Crystal Slater works with a Girl Scout troop in Oklahoma City, and contests Swanson’s claims, telling KFOR “the Girl Scout cookie program is actually about teaching girls skills — financial literacy skills.”
“Girls that earn our Gold Award, which is the highest award of Girl Scouting, go on to be parents of very successful children,” Slater said. “They go on to be CEOs of corporations. They go on to the military and serve their country. Those are the things girl scouting is about.”
Swanson contests that claim, and went on to provide far-reaching opinions about the political and financial implications of buying a box of “Tagalongs.”
“In fact, if you want a Communist in the White House in the year 2020, you have got to get more daughters raised with the worldview … that is presented by the Girl Scouts of America,” Swanson said. “The individualism of feminism has been devastating to this country.”
Swanson went on to say that Girl Scouts, and particularly their cookies, contribute to the scourge of male unemployment in America.
KFOR called Swanson multiple times to seeking comment. He did not return messages. FOX31 Denver has had no success contacting Swanson, either.
