AURORA, Colo. — Police are looking for a man who stole a car left running in Aurora Monday night with a 3-year-old child inside.
Aurora Police said the owner of the car was visiting a relative and left her child inside the running car in the 2200 block of Kenton Street.
Five minutes later, she returned and the car was gone, police said.
Officers quickly responded and began a dragnet of the area. The car was spotted a short time later near East 23rd Avenue and Ironton Street.
Aurora Police said a man ran from the vehicle. Officers chased him, but lost track of the man. They were able to follow footprints left in the snow, but that trail ended in the 2200 block of Jamaica Street, police said.
The suspect is described as a black man about 5-feet-8 tall with a slim build. He was wearing a stocking cap, blue sweatshirt and grey sweatpants.
The mother was re-united with the child, police said.
“This case is just another reminder of the importance of not leaving your vehicle running unattended,” Aurora Police said in a Facebook post. “Thankfully this story has a happy outcome.”
