AURORA, Colo. — A person in a wheelchair died Thursday afternoon after getting hit by a car at East Alameda Avenue and South Moline Street.
The crash closed the eastbound lanes of Alameda during the evening commute, causing large traffic jams. This happened just east of Havana Street.
“The preliminary investigation shows a Chrysler 300 was driving eastbound on E. Alameda Ave., and the driver went unconscious due to an unknown medical condition,” a press release from Aurora Police said.
The car went onto the sidewalk on the south side of Alameda.
A man in a wheelchair was coming the other direction on the sidewalk when the car hit him. He was taken to a hospital where he died.
Before stopping, the car crashed into a power pole and then veered back onto Alameda where it collided with another vehicle. The driver of the Chrysler went to the hospital with minor injuries.
Drugs, alcohol, or speed do not appear to be a factor in this crash.
A 2-block stretch of eastbound Alameda was closed for four hours during the investigation.
The man in the wheelchair has been identified as Leon Clark Hoschouer, 68.
