AURORA, Colo. – A man died Sunday after his car struck a curb by a bike underpass near South Chambers Road in Aurora.

Officers say that at approximately 5:50 p.m., Aurora police and fire crews responded to reports of a single car accident just north of Alameda Drive Sunday.

Police said the car was traveling southbound on South Chambers Road at a high speed when it hit a curb, causing the car to slide sideways toward a concrete retaining wall near the Highline Canal Trail bike underpass.

Investigators say the driver was the only occupant of the car. They say he suffered significant injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver was wearing a seat belt, according to police, but it is unknown if alcohol or drugs were involved. Authorities have not yet released the driver’s name.
