BENNETT, Colo. -- A bus driver in Bennett is under investigation after allegations of having an inappropriate relationship with a student.
Both the Adams County Sheriff's Office and the school district confirmed the investigation to FOX31 Denver.
The bus driver is a 31-year-old female and the student is 16.
FOX31 Denver's Justin Joseph was staking out the school bus yard last week after getting the tip about the bus driver. During the stake out, he received a second tip saying the driver could be found at a nearby gas station.
We found bus number 37, parked outside a gas station just off I-70 in Adams county at 7:00 in the evening. It is the bus someone tipped us about and they even said we'd find the bus driver's personal car the station. there was a second school bus there. Even more surprisingly, when we walked up, we found the teenage boy at the center of the allegations.
The driver of the second bus wouldn’t tell us where the driver of the bus we were looking for was.
"Where's Jessica?" reporter Justin Joseph asked. “She's not here,” the woman said.
The driver was hiding on the bus.
After pulling the Bennett High School student onto the bus, the driver first said she didn`t know where the suspect was but then later changed her story.
But news of the alleged inappropriate relationship has come out and the person who tipped us off said just about everyone around town is whispering.
“It really bothers me. If the child was a female and this was an adult male there would be outrage,” the man said.
The tipster claims the bus driver and student have been seen together outside of the school and he calls the allegations concerning. “I`ve seen them driving around together holding hands and kissing. (It’s) real in appropriate behavior for a bus driver and a child."
At the gas station, an administrator arrived and confirmed the driver was at the location but declined to comment. Adams County deputies confirmed they are investigating. The Bennett School District suspended the driver while the investigation continues.
