LAKEWOOD, Colo. -- Firefighters quickly contained two grass fires along Highway 285 near South Kipling Parkway on Tuesday afternoon, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said.

The fire was burning between Kipling and South Simms Street, near Homestead Golf Course, which was evacuated as a precautionary measure for a period of time, the Lakewood Police Department said.

There were no structures threatened by the fire, officials said. West Metro Fire said the fires were 2 acres in size and they had several crews on scene.

Highway 285 was closed in both directions in the area for a short time while crews battled the fires.

It is unknown how the fires started.
