BOULDER, Colo. — The Boulder Reservoir swim area is closed until at least 5 p.m. because of elevated levels of bacteria.

Swimming was temporarily suspended Wednesday afternoon when a routine water sampling test determined bacteria levels were too high. The increased levels are believed to be the result of rain runoff.

The reservoir swim area will reopen once bacteria levels are reduced, officials said.

For more information, call the Boulder Reservoir at 303-441-3461 or check for schedule updates on the City of Boulder Parks and Recreation Department’s Twitter account.

The move isn’t unusual. The  swimming area was last closed nearly one year ago for a similar issue.
