(CNN) Whitney Houston’s former husband, Bobby Brown, left the late pop superstar’s funeral Saturday after he was told he and his entourage would not be able to sit together at the service, police sources told CNN.

Brown appeared to be very emotional, his eyes red and his head hanging, as he walked up the aisle of the New Hope Baptist Church in Newark, New Jersey, after passing Houston’s casket.
