ARVADA, Colo. — A bicyclist was struck and killed by a vehicle on Wednesday morning, the Arvada Police Department said.

The accident happened just before 7 a.m. at West 52nd Avenue and Wadsworth Boulevard, police said.

The bicyclist, a 43-year-old man, was taken to a hospital in critical condition but later died.

A mangled bicycle was in a crosswalk as police investigated. The vehicle’s driver stayed at the scene.

All northbound lanes of Wadsworth and all westbound lanes of 52nd Avenue were closed for several hours as police investigated.

The roads reopened about 9:15 a.m.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
