COMMERCE CITY, City – It was standing room only inside Dick’s Sporting Good Arena on Saturday where David Beckham and the LA Galaxy took on the Colorado Rapids in a Western Conference match.
The crowds, estimated to be more than 18,000 people, brought out big support for both major league soccer and the world famous Beckham, known often for his work both and off the field.
“With the high profile English premier league players coming over here, I think more and more people are going to gravitate towards this,” said Josh Crane, a soccer fan from Boulder.
Hours before the game, fans showed up to tailgate and prepare for a match that many had been waiting months to see. Colorado Rapids officials expected large crowds even before Beckham officially announced he would be making the trip to Denver.
“If I would play him, I would think I would so lose," added one young soccer fan.
In the end the Rapids would end up losing as well, 2-1 against Los Angeles. Crowds leaving the stadium left caring less about the score and more about when they could see a rematch against some of Major League Soccer’s most popular teams
