If all you plan on buying your mom for Mother’s Day is a card, you better make it a nice one.

This year, the average American will spend $152 on their Mother’s Day gifts according to the National Retail Federation.

That’s $12 more than we spent last Mother’s Day.

Appreciative sons and daughters across the country will spend $18.6 billion based on a consumer spending survey conducted in April.

In spite of economic uncertainty and high gas prices, Mother’s Day spending has gone up every year since 2009.

If you’re sending flowers on Sunday, you’re not alone — about two-thirds of consumers will be buying the same gift.
