AURORA, Colo. — An Aurora police officer was injured during a traffic stop Sunday night.

It happened just after 5 p.m. when an officer was making a stop on a vehicle that was reported to have a wanted subject inside at South Buckley Road and East Exposition Drive.

When the officer made contact with the driver, he drove off, dragging the officer approximately 20 yards, the Aurora Police Department said.

The officer suffered nonlife-threatening injuries to his head, leg and foot, and police said he is conscious and talking. He was released from the hospital late Sunday night without serious injuries.

The suspect’s vehicle was later found in the 16700 block of East Tennessee Avenue. The wanted subject, who was a passenger in the vehicle, was located a short time later and is in custody, police said.

The driver, a black male in his early 20s, is still at large.

The investigation is ongoing.
