AURORA, Colo. — Aurora police arrested a man Monday in connection with a 2005 homicide investigation.

Members of the Aurora Police Fugitive Unit arrested Jon Harrington, 50, at his Denver residence, according to the Aurora Police Department.

Harrington was arrested on a warrant for second-degree murder, and is being held on a $250,000 bond at the Arapahoe County Jail.

Police identified the victim as Carolyn Jansen, who was 43 went she first went missing — she and Harrington were roommates when she disappeared.

Investigators said Jansen may have been killed as earl as 2002.

On June 28, 2005, police were dispatched to an Aurora home after another former roommate of Harrington’s had opened a Rubbermaid container and found human remains.

The remains were later identified as Jansen’s, said police.

While law enforcement initially singled Harrington out as a suspect in the homicide, investigators said establishing a case against him was a challenge.

The case was assigned to Cold Case Detectives in 2008.

Police attributed the recent arrest to the detectives’ persistence and the aid of the Arapahoe County District Attorney’s office.
