JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — A 65-year-old man was found dead Saturday after his vehicle crashed into Clear Creek, the Colorado State Patrol reported.

Danny Eugene Sheya of Aurora was driving on Highways 6 near tunnel 1 when he somehow lost control of his black SUV and left the roadway, CSP reported. The crash was reported about 5 p.m. Saturday, but it was not yet clear when the accident actually happened.

Sheya’s family said they last heard from him Thursday night. They were not able to contact him the following day, and he was reported missing on Friday.

Highway 6 was closed for several hours between Highway 119 near Gilpin County and the bottom of Clear Creek Canyon.
