AURORA, Colo. — An Aurora man was charged Wednesday with child abuse after he allegedly killed his infant son with a headbutt, according to an arrest affidavit.

Martin Fernando Holguin Jr., 22, was charged in a Sept. 16 incident in which his 3-month-old son, Aiden, died of severe head trauma.

The affidavit states that Holguin admitted to headbutting the child in anger when the baby wouldn’t stop crying.

He reported hitting the child above the right ear, which is where doctors discovered a fatal skull fracture, the affidavit said.

The incident occurred at a home in the 1600 block of North Hanover Street. Holguin reportedly told police that he did not mean to hurt his son.

The suspect was being held on a felony charge of child abuse resulting in death. A hearing is scheduled for Dec. 10.
