DENVER — A tornado warning was issued for the western suburbs around midnight, capping what was a crazy weather day around metro Denver.

Severe thunderstorms developed quickly across the Front Range and Palmer Divide Wednesday afternoon, with the National Weather Service confirming at least seven tornadoes in five counties by 8:15 p.m.

Many storms produced large hail and heavy rain, prompting FLASH FLOOD WARNINGS that stayed in place well past midnight.

Some locations received nearly four inches of rain from the slow moving thunderstorms.

Severe weather reports from Wednesday and early Thursday are posted below:

Tornado Reports:

5:05 p.m.   Near Denver International Airport (landspout)

6:38 p.m.  Near Grover, Weld County (minor tree damage reported)

7:30 p.m.  Near Kiowa, Elbert County

7:40 p.m.  Near Elizabeth, Douglas County

7:44 p.m.  Near Kiowa, Elbert County

7:45 p.m.  Near Bennett, Arapahoe County

8:15 p.m.  9 miles east of Parker in Elbert County

Heavy Rain Reports:

Doppler radar estimates that 3 to 5 inches of rain had fallen between 6:00 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. in Arapahoe, Douglas and Elbert counties, prompting a FLASH FLOOD WARNING.

Automated rain gauges in northeast Douglas County indicated that 2 to 3.5 inches of rain has fallen within an hour from the nearly stationary storms.
