ARVADA, Colo. — The Arvada Police Department is investigating a former funeral home director for theft.

Darrin Pinkston, 40, worked at Malesich & Shirey funeral home from July of 2012 until September of 2013. During that time, he is alleged to have offered clients a cash payment discount, and then pocketed the money for himself, APD said.

There are as many as 60 potential clients who paid cash for funeral services. The clients received the services for which they paid, but the money was never properly transferred to the funeral home, APD reported.

The owners of Malesich & Shirey contacted the Arvada Police in September of 2013 with their concerns and an investigation was initiated.

Pinkston was arrested by Arvada Police on Sept. 30, 2013, and an investigation is ongoing.

One of the alleged victims was Sarah Ridgeway, mother of Jessica Ridgeway, police said.
