NIWOT, Colo. — An 83-year-old Niwot man who went missing Sunday morning after leaving his home to get groceries was found safe near Lincoln, Neb., the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office said.

Louis Bova never made it to the store in Longmont to get groceries. He was found about 8:45 p.m. Sunday.

Bova left his home about 11 a.m. Sunday in a 2002 gold Buick LeSabre. He was approached by a Nebraska State Patrol trooper who had stopped to check on Bova after his car was found disabled along the side of the highway, the sheriff’s office said.

Trooper Mike Mallery discovered Bova was listed as a missing person and communicated with the Boulder County Sheriff’s Office that he had been found.

Authorities said it appeared Bova became disoriented as to where his home was located. Arrangements were made for Bova’s family to meet him in Lincoln and bring him home.
