JEFFERSON COUNTY, Colo. — An allegedly intoxicated armed suspect was taken into custody by police after a search was underway near Red Rocks Saturday night.

Jefferson County police responded to a 911 call around 9 p.m. from a person who said they witnessed a man park his car on Highway 93 west of Red Rocks and take a rifle or shotgun out of the car.

The witness said the man then climbed up the hogback between Highway 93 and C-470, not towards Red Rocks. The witness said he saw a muzzle flash and a gun shot, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Police searched the area and closed Highway 93 between Morrison and Matthew Winters Park.

The suspect came back to his car and was taken into custody around 9:40 p.m. Several weapons were recovered, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office.

Police were interviewing him as to why he had weapons and why he fired a shot.

There was a concert ending around the time of police operations, but Jefferson County police say the incident did not impact Red Rocks.

All closed roads were opened shortly before 10 p.m.

It is unclear if the suspect will face any charges and what those charges may be.
