ARAPAHOE COUNTY, Colo. — One person was killed after a head-on crash early Tuesday morning in which alcohol is suspected and the driver of the vehicles fled the scene, the Colorado State Patrol said.

CSP says a sedan crossed over a median while traveling westbound on East Iliff Avenue at South Quebec Street and slammed head-on into another vehicle about midnight.

The driver of the vehicle traveling westbound died at the scene. He was identified by the Arapahoe County Corner as 41-year-old Jason Soodsma of Aurora.

There were five people in the suspect’s vehicle, CSP said. The driver, identified as 22-year-old Jeremy Brown,  fled the scene but was found a short time later. He was taken into custody and booked into the Arapahoe County Jail.

Brown has a criminal history dating to 2011, according to the Colorado Bureau of Investigation, that includes arrests for felony robbery, assault, trespassing, shoplifting, obstructing police, disorderly conduct and drug possession. He is being held on a $50,000 bond and is due in court at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The four passengers remained inside the vehicle and were taken to a local hospital with minor injuries.

Iliff was closed as the crash was investigated but was reopened just before 7 a.m.
