Adams County man convicted of sexually assaulting 9-year-old family member

ADAMS COUNTY, Colo. — A jury returned a guilty verdict against Steve Pierce in a case involving Pierce sexually assaulting a 9-year-old member of his family.

The assault happened May 26, 2013 in Thornton.

Police said they were notified after the 9-year-old victim went to the North Suburban Medical Center around 3 a.m. three days later.

The victim was taken to Children’s Hospital for treatment. Later that day police issued a warrant for Pierce’s arrest.

He was found in Washington state and extradited to Colorado to face trial.

The jury found Piece guilty of three felony charges including of sexual assault by a person in a position of trust, child abuse causing serious bodily injury, aggravated sexual assault on a child by use of threats and sexual assault on a child.

He will be sentenced on Tuesday. Prosecutors are hoping to sentence Piece as a habitual offender, said Sue Lindsay of the Adams County District Attorney’s Office.

He faces between 10 years to life in prison, Lindsay said.

Court records show Pierce has a criminal history dating back to 2011.
