Mom with three kids in car drives off bridge in Denver; DUID suspected

DENVER — The Colorado State Patrol said a car driven by a mom with her three children in the back drove off a bridge near East Illiff Avenue and South Trenton Way on Tuesday.

The crash happened along the Cherry Creek Bike Trail near Iliff Ave. and Quebec St. in unincorporated Arapahoe County at about 10:00 a.m.

Donna Pierre and her three children were traveling eastbound on Iliff Ave. when their SUV crashed through a fence and rolled down an embankment. It did a full rotation before landing on the bike path.

Police say Pierre was not was not wearing her seatbelt and was ejected from he vehicle. She was taken to Aurora South Hospital with serious injuries.

Two seven year old girls and a two year old boy riding in the backseat were all wearing child restraint systems. None of the kids were hurt, but all passengers were transported to a local hospital.

Officers reported drugs or alcohol might have been a factor.

Pierre has a long history of drug charges. She was charged with DUI at the end of March. If she is charged with DUI after Tuesday’s crash, she could also be facing child abuse charges.
