GREELEY, Colo. — Eight people were taken to a hospital after an apartment building fire on Thursday morning, the Greeley Fire Department said.
The fire was reported about 7:15 a.m. in the 1200 block of 12th Street.
Firefighters found heavy smoke coming from a second-floor apartment when they arrived and requested a second alarm for more crews because of the size of the building an dpotential for multiple rescues.
The building is a large home that had been converted into apartments, the fire department said. The fire was brought under control about 25 minutes after the first crews arrived.
All but one resident of the 21-unit building got out on their own. That person was rescued by fire crews. A total of 31 personnel fought the fire.
All eight people — five children and three adults — were taken to North Colorado Medical Center for smoke inhalation.
The fire was contained to one unit. The cause of the fire is under investigation. There is no damage estimate.
