DENVER – Four homes were evacuated as a precaution after a grass fire broke out near Castle Pines Monday afternoon.

The fire was contained to about one acre and was under control around 2:30 p.m., said Becky O’Guin of the South Metro Fire Department.

The fire was first reported around 1:20 p.m. in the area of Briar Ridge and Heather drives. It initially threatened two homes and forced the evacuation of two more, but none of the structures were damaged.

Firefighters quickly built a perimeter around the fire and were working on putting out hot spots, O’Guin said.

The four homes evacuated are in the Pinewood Drive neighborhood. O’Guin said homeowners would likely be allowed back in Monday night.

There were 44 firefighters on  scene from South Metro Fire Rescue, Castle Rock and Littleton.
