DENVER -- Let's face it, going to the gynecologist is one of the things many women would love to avoid, but doctors say there are three good reasons to go ahead and keep your appointment.

Dr. Robin Fennimore of Rocky Mountain OB/GYN in Denver says annual exams can reveal important warning signs of developing female problems and explains,  “It's about talking to you about your body, your periods, and about life.”

In general, most patients see the gynecologist once a year so their medical history can be tracked.

Dr. Fennimore says, “It's important for you to come every year so we can go over things that are important at different stages of your life, what you need to be looking for what you need to be doing to prevent disease.”

Another good reason not to skip your annual exam is that it provides patients with a chance to talk about whatever health issue is on their minds, including their anxiety about visiting the gynecologist.
