FORT COLLINS, Colo. — Two pedestrians were seriously injured after being struck by a vehicle, which then fled the scene, on Wednesday night, the Fort Collins Police Department said.

A group of people was walking eastbound along East Drake Road when several of them were struck by a vehicle traveling westbound at Mathews Street just before 9:30 p.m., police said.

A male and female were taken to Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland with serious but nonlife-threatening injuries, police said. A third pedestrian suffered minor injuries. The names and ages of those who were injured were not released.

A short time later, police found the vehicle and two people associated with it. They interviewed the driver, 24-year-old Stefanie Schafer, and an unidentified male passenger. Charges are pending, police said.

Alcohol is being investigated as a contributing factor to the crash, police said.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation. Anyone with information who has not already talked with investigators is asked to call the Fort Collins Police Department at 970-416-2229.
