DENVER — Two armed men attempted to rob three women near the University of Denver campus on Tuesday night, prompting the school to tell students to stay indoors, according to campus police.

The incident happened near East Asbury Avenue and South York Street about 9:45 p.m., according to an alert from the university.

Students were told to “remain indoors and avoid travel until further notice. If outside, seek safety in the nearest building.” The all-clear was given about a half-hour later.

The suspects were described as two black men who were about 5-foot-8 and wearing dark clothing.

At least one of the men fired a weapon into the ground, officials said.

Nothing was taken from the women and no injuries were reported.
