DACONO, Colo. -- In this tiny bedroom community, where fracking and farming mix, 18-year-old Jory Coates is still holding out hope for victory over his opponent, Deb Nasta in the town's city council election. She is leading with 436 votes to Jory’s 428.
“I am a realist,” said Coates. “But, I am holding out hope for a win, once the final numbers come out November 24th.”
The campaign is for one of six council seats in the town of about 4,000. As the battle over the red and blue states winds down, Coates, who works in Frederick, another of the tri-towns at Hammer Time Pizza, hopes to pick up a few votes to move past Nasta—who failed to return our calls for an interview.
“I just thought having a younger person on council would help the town move forward,” said Coates.
Weld County finalizes the votes on 11-24-14, so until then Coates will keep spinning pizzas while waiting for the results.
