BOULDER, Colo. — A Boulder County 12-year-old girl accused of twice pouring bleach into her mother’s drink after having her iPhone privileges taken away has been officially charged, the Boulder County District Attorney’s Office said Wednesday.

The girl faces two counts of attempted first-degree murder and two counts of second-degree assault. There are no plans to move the case out of juvenile court.

The Boulder County Sheriff’s Office says the girl put bleach into her mother’s breakfast smoothie on March 2, then a week later, it’s alleged the girl poured bleach into a water carafe her mother kept in the bedroom.

The mother smelled bleach in the smooth and thought her daughter used it to clean the glass. The second time, the mother said she confronted her daughter and learned of her plans, then contacted authorities.

The girl is not in custody but details on whose care she is under are not being released. There are reports she in the custody of her father and is only allowed to contact her mother by phone.
