11-year-old dies in I-70 rollover accident near Silverthorne

SILVERTHORNE, Colo. — A rollover accident on I-70 killed an 11-year-old near Silverthorne Thursday morning.

According to Colorado State Patrol spokesperson Josh Lewis, the rollover only involved one vehicle, a blue pickup truck with three Avon parties inside. Lewis said the 11-year-old died from his injuries after being thrown from the vehicle in the wreck, which took place at approximately 9 a.m.

Lewis said the driver, a 42-year-old male, was uninjured, and the third party, whose age was unknown, was transported to a nearby hospital with unknown injuries.

The cause of the accident was still under investigation as of 11 a.m. Two lanes of eastbound I-70 were closed shortly after the accident as crews worked to clean up the scene.

All lanes were reopened as of 11 a.m.
