LAPORTE, Colo. – Firefighters managed to contain a wildfire that was burning north of Fort Collins Saturday afternoon.

According to the Poudre Fire Authority, a passerby reported seeing a fire in the trees near Larimer County Road 60 and Savvy Place.

Firefighters found a quickly-moving grass fire upon arriving at the scene and had to call for additional units. The Poudre Fire Authority, the Larimer County Sheriff’s Office and the Wellington Fire Protection District assisted with 15 units and approximately 30 people.

Authorities said the fire was contained by 3:22 p.m., after an estimated 80-100 acres had burned.

The sheriff’s office said the fire started when an illegal burn got out of control.

One shed was damaged in the fire. No evacuations or road closures were issued.
