THORNTON, Colo. — One person was killed and another was injured in a four-vehicle crash on Thursday, the Thornton Police Department said.

The crash happened on East 112th Avenue east of Colorado Boulevard.

“I heard this this huge bang and I didn’t even think anything of it until I heard all the sirens,” a witness said.

The crash sent one vehicle through a fence. The scene snarled traffic during the height of the afternoon rush hour.

Police said medics tried to save the life of one of the drivers, an adult male. He was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at a hospital, authorities said.

An woman driver suffered serious injuries.

“Somebody slammed their brakes and hit so hard like boom,” a liquor store clerk said.

Police investigators said they believe the driver who died is the one who was at fault.

A police spokesman, citing an ongoing investigation, would not release details as to what might have caused the crash.

The drivers’ identities have not been released.
