DENVER — A taxi driver was killed and five more were injured after a rollover wreck in east Denver early Monday morning.
Denver Police said the accident occurred before 1:30 a.m. at the intersection of East 17th Avenue and North Colorado Boulevard. A Buick sedan with four people inside and taxi cab carrying one passenger were involved in the crash. Police say the Buick ran a red light traveling westbound on 17th, causing the accident.
The taxi rolled and was on fire when police arrived.
The cab driver was pronounced dead, and five others were transported away from the scene. Police believed as many as three of those transported from the scene were in critical condition.
A co-worker of the dead man said he was a father of two who had been with the company since 2010. He described him as “a very nice guy.”
Both directions of East 17th Avenue were closed near the scene of the accident as of 5:30 a.m., with no estimated timetable given for when it would reopen.
