DENVER — One man was shot and another was injured when multiple people exchanged gunfire in lower downtown early Saturday morning, the Denver Police Department said.

The shooting happened in the 1800 block of Market Street just after midnight, police said.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene. The second victim is expected to survive, according to police. It appears the victims were together at the time.

“I had never heard that much gunfire before,” said Tiffany Meador, who witnessed it in a pedicab. “It was constant, constant gunfire.”

Several cars in the area were hit with bullets. Police said the suspect or suspects are at large, but have not released any descriptions.

The investigation into the shooting is continuing, police said.
