DENVER (KDVR) — Voters in Denver are electing members to the Denver Public Schools Board of Education. There are three open seats: Director At-Large, Director District 1 and Director District 5.
At-large candidate John Youngquist declared victory on election night, with unofficial results showing he’d taken nearly 63% of the vote as just before 10 p.m.
Youngquist’s campaign said opponent Kwame Spearman called to concede, with results showing he had nearly 26% of the vote.
“Winning this race reaffirms my understanding that our community is determined to have a school board that will work together to ensure that every child has a safe, motivating, effective learning experience that propels them into their successful future,” Youngquist said, in part, in a statement. “I look forward to listening to our children, their parents, our teachers and our principals to better understand the work that we need to prioritize as a school district.”
