  • Judge sentences Colo. man to 55 years for assault with intent to murder

    DENVER – A Colorado man has been sentenced to 660 months (55 years) in federal prison for assault with intent to commit murder and other assault and weapon charges. Matthew Dewayne Jaramillo, 30, of Towac, was sentenced earlier this week by U.S. District Court Judge Robert E. Blackburn.   • Police: Man driving cement truck dies on I-25

    DOUGLAS COUNTY, Colo. — Colorado State Police responded to the scene of a fatal one car crash on Interstate 25 NB near mm 167 by Greenland Friday. The crash happened at approximately 11:55 a.m. According to troopers, the male driver of the vehicle was declared dead on the scene. The man’s identity has not been released.     DENVER – Four new cases of West Nile Virus have been reported by the state of Colorado. As of Thursday, the total number of reported cases in the state reported this summer increased to 11. The most recent West Nile reports include two women from Larimer County, one woman from Boulder and a man from Prowers County. All of the 11 victims this year are over 40 years old.     Fatal motorcycle accident closes EB I-70 overnight

    DENVER – Police responders said a motorcyclist lost control and was thrown off his bike early Friday morning. The man landed in the roadway and was hit by a semi-truck, according to police. Officials said the road was not wet, and I-70 reopened just after 3 a.m. The motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene. At this point, police say the semi driver is not facing any charges.

    Trader Joe’s announces 3rd Colorado location

    DENVER – Trader Joe’s announces a third Colorado store to be opened in 2014. The specialty grocery chain has two Colorado locations under construction. A spokesperson for the company says Trader Joe’s will open another store in Greenwood Village at 5901 S. University Blvd. One store is under construction at 750 Colorado Blvd in Denver.   • Car accident involving horse kills two and injures three

    WIGGINS, Colo. – A car accident involving a horse on I-76 in northeastern Colorado killed  two and injured three on Sunday according to Colorado State Patrol troopers. At about 9:30 p.m. on eastbound I-76 near Wiggins a riderless horse was in the road. Police report the first vehicle to collide with the horse was a 2005 Dodge Caravan which came to a stop on the eastbound shoulder after impact.     DENVER – The Environmental Protection Agency announced Monday they have fined Maralex Disposal for violating the Safe Water Drinking Act at a disposal well in La Plata County. Maralex will pay a penalty of $89,900 to resolve the violations. The EPA said they fined Maralex because it’s commercial brine disposal injunction well was faulty.
